The Instruction Books

Too much information, or an overload of material, can cause anxiety. The same is true if we have insufficient information or, worse still, incorrect information. But we don't want you to be drowned in information and starved for knowledge. So, we have presented a balanced array of material that will allow you to progress as rapidly and efficiently as possible.

Having said that, we've tried not to take anything for granted as far as your knowledge of music or the piano is concerned. We start at the beginning so to speak. For example, we won't give you a music lesson, but if you don't have any knowledge of the piano keyboard, we'll teach you the names of the keys and the musical intervals you will use in tuning a piano.

Most of the subjects that are discussed in this course are very deep. Simple words and short sentences are powerful tools of communication. But keeping things simple makes it easier to understand. Therefore, we've tried to eliminate unnecessary details.

This course is the result of many years of experience. We believe it is one of the most informative and effective correspondence courses written. Even though our course has been critically reviewed by professional piano technicians (RPT's) with many years of experience, we fully realize the possibility of having overlooked something. Therefore, do not hesitate to call to our attention anything that is not clear or in error. We are constantly updating our course. We welcome your suggestions.

Follow the instructions carefully and, if possible, practice your tuning everyday. If you make this commitment, you can become qualified as a professional piano technician.

However, let me make it very clear: do not expect to be a master craftsmen when you complete this course. You'll have the basic knowledge you need to go out and service pianos. But you'll still need experience. It's a little bit like a medical student who graduates from medical school. The new doctor still must serve his internship to gain the necessary experience to become a fully qualified physician. Click here to read about how we support our students.
