The Complete Course in Piano Technology - Tuning and Technical Skills

  • Full Tuition: $3290 or Payment plan of $195 a month for 18 months
  • Tools can be purchased separately from a Piano Supply company. Basic tools for the Tuning Course are about $225. Basic tools for the Technical Course begin at about $350. Grand and Vertical Action models and other necessary items for the technical instruction must be obtained from outside sources. The local chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild can often loan you these models, or they can be purchased directly from the Piano Technicians Guild.
  • Phone and email consultations are included in the tuition fee.
  • Live tutoring sessions are also included.

Aural Tuning Course for Members of PTG

This course is only available to those members of the Piano Technicians Guild that wish to take their aural tuning certification exam and have already passed their written and technical exams.

  • Tuition: $2495.00 - or Payment Plan of 145 a month for 18 months
  • Includes written materials in an online format and access to our online tuning video library.
  • Phone and email consultations are included in the tuition fee.
  • Live tutoring sessions are also included.

Terms of Enrollment

The tuition includes study materials, instructional video support, email, phone, and live tutoring sessions. The Butler School uses several different instructors. Tools will be purchased separately from Schaff Piano Supply (or another supply house) as needed.

By enrolling in the school, you agree to abide by all the standards and policies outlined by The Butler School of Piano Technology.

You further accept and agree that you will not in any way or form copy, reproduce, or share with anyone any written material, the Video Library, or any other form of the material provided by and received from the Butler School of Piano Technology as operated by Richard James Butler, Jr. and agents and representatives of Richard James Butler, Jr. Any materials provided by Butler School of Piano will be limited to your personal use and benefit solely. There will be no refund of tuition fees if a student withdraws from the school.

Our primary instructors are listed below. The course should be completed within 24 months. After 24 months, you can extend the personal one-on-one tuning and technical lesson support for $150 a month. However, access to the lesson material and instructional videos will continue without additional fees.
